Halki Suit Balat: From Restoration Work to Interior Character
Halki Suit Balat brings a historic Istanbul building into contemporary use while keeping its architectural character at the centre of the project. Led by Zafer Kaymaz, the work took place from December 2025 to September 2026 with an exceptional specialist restoration team.
Begin with the building as it is
Existing-condition photographs and architectural drawings create a shared record of the building. In the project gallery, early rooms, worn finishes and exposed construction show the starting point. Recording these conditions helps the team discuss what gives each space its character before deciding how it should change.
Follow the work behind the finishes
The construction sequence includes exposed masonry and timber elements, floor and partition works, window joinery and interior finishes. These images tell a part of the story that a completed-room photograph cannot: how the different trades contribute to the finished space.
Let craftsmanship guide the interior
Decorative timber ceilings and window proportions became important references for the interior language. Warm materials and restrained colours allow the architectural details to remain prominent. The aim is a coherent relationship between existing character and contemporary comfort.
Make the transformation readable
The portfolio brings together architectural drawings, construction photographs, restored spaces and design visualizations. Each serves a different purpose. Site photographs document the work; visualizations communicate the intended atmosphere, furniture and lighting. Reading them together makes the design process easier to understand.
A shared result
Restoration depends on the care of the people carrying out the work as much as on the design drawings. The Halki Suit Balat story recognises that collective effort, from planning and joinery to the final interior details. Explore the project gallery to follow the transformation in sequence.
