Palm City Shopping and Living Center
Palm City Shopping and Lifestyle Center is an indispensable destination in the city of Mersin, Turkey, bringing together shopping, dining, and entertainment experiences.
Palm City offers a rich shopping experience with seventy different stores over a vast area of 95,000 square meters. In 2023, I was invited to Mersin as part of the renovation project for the shopping center. This project involved a comprehensive year-long renovation of the food court, general areas, and restrooms. The primary goal was to implement a renovation plan that would not disturb visitors while the shopping center remained operational.
Food Court and General Areas Despite its size, the food court was designed to be a warm, inviting, comfortable, and acoustically superior social space for dining, gathering, and socializing. Throughout the design process, aesthetic value and user experience were paramount, with every detail meticulously planned and executed.
Planned Areas
Flooring in general areas
Ceiling works in the food court, entrance gallery, and corridors of general areas
Emergency exits and corridors
Communal areas, including restrooms, prayer rooms, childcare units, and disabled restrooms
Maintenance and repair work
The seating capacity of the dining areas was increased to 400, enhancing both the aesthetic and comfort standards of the space. The ceilings were transformed with acoustic profiles and sound-absorbing forms, adding an aesthetic dimension. The entrance gallery and event areas were made modern, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. Ceiling works in the corridors, similar to those in the entrance and food court, stood out with their cohesive aesthetic and functional design. In addition to restrooms for women, men, families, and disabled individuals, a prayer room was also planned.
During the project, the implementation phases were carried out in two shifts; noisy tasks were performed at night, while quieter, more delicate tasks were completed with aesthetic coverings during operational hours. The project was monitored by two teams from start to finish, with a strong emphasis on safety. Daily meetings with approximately 120 producers, craftsmen, and workers ensured that the work was conducted safely and efficiently.
